The Works

Vaughan Williams’ ‘The Lark Ascending’ is, without doubt, his most well-known work. Dating from 1914, this serene and eloquent piece of music takes its title from a poem by George Meredith (a resident on Box Hill).

The concert also includes Bach’s Double Concerto for Oboe & Violin, with a playful dialogue between the soloists and strings; a Vaughan Williams choral piece; Finzi’s moving and sensitive ‘Dies Natalis’; and Handel’s rousing anthem ‘O Praise the Lord with one Consent’.
